We recognize that not all mining projects are the same. Each one of our clients has unique needs, which we consider when providing support. Opencontour partnered with Forte Dynamics and Forte Analytical to further optimize mine-to-heap systems.

Forte Dynamics provides dynamic systems optimization and mine engineering for heap leaching operations. Our unique approach integrates an array of site data from mine-to-heap to enhance and predict metal recovery. Our HLF model uses discretized cells to track metallurgical data, ore amounts and grades, HLP stacking configuration, pad geometry, kinetics, and hydrodynamics to create a matrix to evaluate and enhance mine NPV.

Forte's mine optimization model simulates solution movement and metal extraction as a function of time based on unsaturated solution flow properties, kinetics dissolution and diffusion rates, as well as leaching dynamics.

Data for ore crush size, compaction, bulk density, moisture content, solution movement, and leaching time is used to optimize recovery. Short term and long-term plans help bring ounces forward and enhance project NPV.

Russell Downer

CEO & Founder

My curiosity for computers, science, and engineering can be traced back to my early years. I am the CEO and founder of Opencontour and the Director of Mining for Forte Dynamics. After working for a large Gold Mining Company for over twenty years, I decided to start Opencontour. I regularly evaluate designs, schedules, and processes and always wondered, " What if we did things differently? Making things work and work better and then looking for ways to innovate them continues to be my driving force.

 As a new start-up, the software has continued to evolve. The company also focuses on becoming the first to market heap leach stacking and recovery modeling software. Clients have gained many valuable insights from our software solutions.

Maria Echavarria Eikhof

COO

To achieve success, I have a strong desire to make things happen and to make a meaningful difference for team members, customers, and people in the communities we serve.

I am Opencontour’s COO. My experience working in Australia, the Philippines, and North America has enabled me to lead multi-disciplinary teams in complex project environments. My career goal has been to develop customer-centric strategies and close-knit foster teams and deliver results in some of the most challenging and competitive markets. I have a Master of Business Administration from the David Eccles School of Business, University of Utah, and I am a certified P.M.P. When I'm not at work, I enjoy running, skiing, and exploring nature.

Barry Carlson

Co-Manager, Forte Dynamics President

I am Barry Carlson, Opencontour’s Co-Manager and Forte Dynamics President and Founder. I am an entrepreneur at heart, having started 4 companies in the past two decades. I have pursued and successfully obtained 14 patents on my inventions related to a new composite structural material formulated to out-perform typical wood structures in strength and longevity. I have over 34 years of experience in project management and design for numerous mining projects and operations across the United States, including heap leach water balance management and analyses, feasibility studies, geotechnical design and analyses, site reclamation planning, and remedial action planning. I was honored to be one of the Mining Hall of Fame nominees in 2017 for my heap leach modeling expertise.  I have worked with leaders and advisors from US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), and multiple state agencies. In 2021 I became a Sommelier. This course has broadened my understanding of the industry and its functions.
